.......TWO VIEWS OF "IL PALAZZO DUCALE" (Ducal or Doges Palace) in St. Mark's Square, was used for affairs of State or government. The facade on this side is about 72 meters long. It was constructed in the year 1404 by Jacobello and Pier Paolo dalle Masegne, (according to the our guide book). But before 1340 the original building had a much more primitive appearance and after being completely destroyed by a fire, was thus reconstructed many times. It also underwent more alterations and architecture by Palladio and other artists in 1573 or so, to add the finishing touches to its beautiful Gothic style you see now, as well as the addition of incredible pictorial masterpieces on the walls and ceilings. I think it's also interesting that just a few years later in 1577 one or more rooms of this palace were destroyed yet again by fire, thus requiring still more renovation and artistic work. We didn't have time to tour the interior of the palace, but from the pictures in the guide book, the interior is gorgeous beyond belief with all its ornateness, gold and priceless art in every room.
