.........DOWNTOWN NETTUNO: We took walks around the town and Marina areas, on 2 different occasions with Romana taking time out from her busy schedule to accompany us. Nettuno is a lovely smallish city with a palm tree lined boulevard which runs along the Mediterranean Sea, and has quaint little piazzas, and lovely fountains like this one. I was a bit disappointed we didn't go on the beach (for lack of time, and after all, it WAS the end of October!) but we all enjoyed our walk nevertheless.
We also one day were able to visit a small museum there, which housed a lot of memorabilia, artifacts, and photos from World War II, and was meant as a tribute to the American soldiers who so bravely fought on the shores of Anzio and Nettuno. It was very interesting, and certainly a wonderful little tribute offered by the City of Nettuno to these courageous servicemen and their families, for the benefit of all visitors, including American tourists. Many in Nettuno are proud of the part they played in offering hospitality to these soldiers, and they are obviously grateful to the Americans who did so much to help them, and the world, in those dark days of World War II.
